The Whistler Blackcomb Indoor Waterpark is a proposed multilevel, 145,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility located at Base 2 of Whistler Blackcomb, in Whistler, B.C. Positioned at the ski-out zone of Blackcomb Mountain, Base 2 has long been considered a prime location for expanding both current and future amenities. This project aims to capitalize on that potential, establishing a major entertainment hub that integrates seamlessly with the mountain's existing operations and recreational offerings.
The waterpark’s strategic location will provide a unique connection between Blackcomb Mountain, Whistler Village, and the Upper Village, offering a distinctive vantage point for visitors. The facility will complement the mountain's year-round appeal by adding a family-friendly entertainment option, enriching the overall Whistler Blackcomb experience.
While the project promises to enhance Whistler’s recreational landscape, it faces inherent challenges typical of large-scale leisure developments. These include limited planning time, the complexity of purpose-built leisure projects, and the need for coordination among subcontractors. In Whistler, specific issues such as a limited resource pool and significantly higher construction costs - up to 30-40% higher than those in the lower mainland - present additional hurdles. Moreover, the project’s elevation of over 2,000 feet above sea level imposes a narrow construction window, further complicating timelines.
Despite these obstacles, the proposed Whistler Blackcomb Indoor Waterpark represents an exciting opportunity to create a landmark facility that will serve both visitors and residents, aligning with the continued growth and development of Whistler Blackcomb’s world-class resort.
