Tom Kenny completed his architectural and landscape design education at the Sheffield School of Architecture in the UK, earning registration as an Architect (ARB) and membership in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). With a career spanning various sectors - ranging from institutional to recreational and residential design - Tom has consistently embraced complex challenges across diverse project types.
In recent years, Tom has spearheaded the development of a project quality platform built on core lean principles to drive collaboration across regions. This initiative has been instrumental in his roles as an Associate Architect, Senior Design Manager, and Director of a start-up company, where he has led significant projects in Canada, New Zealand, and the UK.
Tom’s portfolio includes high-end residential developments, affordable rental housing, and complex mixed-use projects, such as the Kaumātua Housing project in Auckland. His design approach is deeply rooted in addressing operational, environmental, and social challenges with clear, grounded ideas and strategic diagrammatic thinking.
His innovative projects range from a hotel and marina resort on a remote island, an advanced indoor waterpark at a world-class ski resort, and therapeutic hot pools in Christchurch, to the first year-round bike park in Port Hills, NZ. Tom brings practical expertise in operations, planning, conservation, and sustainability, along with a focus on modern materials and cost-effective detailing, ensuring design integrity throughout each project.
Outside of his professional life, Tom is an enthusiastic mountain biker and passionate skier, reflecting his love for the outdoors and active living.
